The Mosaic Project bridges the worlds of diversity education and outdoor education, and thus is in a unique position to increase the cultural relevancy of outdoor education in California and beyond.
We strategically unite Bay Area students of diverse backgrounds in our unique human-relations outdoor school. In a beautiful, natural setting, we create a microcosm of the diverse, inclusive, just world we want to see and show our students that peace is possible.

“I learned that I need to do more than what I’ve been doing in order to truly make the world a safer place. I also feel now that I need to reach out more to people who are different from me. Almost everyday since the Mosaic Project, I’ve found myself stopping from judging people prematurely. Mosaic has helped me to really live more consciously. I also discovered at Mosaic that I have the right to be myself, and it’s not my job to make sure people approve of who I am. I just have to be me, and hopefully I’ll be respected even if not liked. I found out that I really love being in nature, and that I really really love being with people who love kids as much as I do.”
“As an outdoor educator, I’m continually integrating the natural wonders that are experienced in an outdoor setting with the magic that comes from interacting with diverse groups of youth. Mosaic has given me the concrete experiences, tools, and skills, to connect and interweave these two extraordinary opportunities and accomplish this goal.”
“I use Mosaic ideas constantly in my work with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). Being out in the wilderness emphasizes the importance of building an inclusive community that honors diversity, because we are all we have out there. Mosaic tools make for a successful expedition.”
