The mission of the Native American Health Center (NAHC) is to assist American Indians and Alaska Natives to improve and maintain their physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual well-being with respect for cultural traditions, and to advocate for the needs of all Indian people, especially the most vulnerable members of our community.

  • 2011 Impact Fund

    Native American Health Center (Oakland) was awarded $30,000 for their Chae-Mal Wilderness Program. The program will provide outdoor educational and recreational activities including kayaking, white water rafting, hiking, camping, and mountain biking to urban Native American and other underserved Bay Area youth. These activities will help revive and nurture the youths’ cultural connections with the land and environment, while supporting their holistic development into adulthood

  • 2010 Impact Fund
    Chae-Mal Wilderness Program

    was awarded $30,000 towards the Chae-Mal Wilderness program to provide outdoor educational activities, including kayaking, white water rafting, hiking, teepee building, camping, snowshoeing and skiing, to urban Native American youth and underserved youth who reside in Oakland and the surrounding San Francisco Bay Area. The program shall use these activities to demonstrate and practice tribal roles to ultimately revive and nurture youth’s cultural connection with the land and encourage a holistic development into adulthood.

  • 2007 Impact Fund
    Chae-mal Wilderness Program

    $35,000 towards The Chae-Mal Wilderness Program, which will provide education and activities like kayaking, mountain biking, hiking and camping for urban Native American and other youth in the community that will nurture an appreciation of the outdoors and respect for its enjoyment and protection.

  • 2006 Midsize Fund

    $42,500 grant to initiate a culturally relevant outdoor wilderness program for urban youth.
