Movimiento

Movimiento offers Wilderness Excursions, Indigenous Youth Initiatives, Art & Land Crafts Workshops, Youth Summits, Leadership Development, and International Service Learning Trips for underserved youth ages 13-18 in the Bay Area, based on our already-successful and established programs in the Southwest. We are located in Oakland and will likely be starting a land-based learning center (in a more rural location but connected to the Bay Area) in the coming years. In partnership with existing likeminded organizations, we are creating urban-rural projects that connect young people to land, food, nature, culture, self-reflection, and life purpose.

Grantee Stories

“I went to Brazil for a service learning trip, where we helped build homes in the rain-forest. We saw the places where the forest was cut down to the bare minimum. That made me think, How are we going to breathe if we keep on cutting down all the trees, how long will we last? The path we are on now is bringing destruction right to our front doors. We have already forgotten what is important to us, our families, and our cultures. If we are to save this world from ourselves, we must all take part in helping restore it to a condition that would make our ancestors proud to call us family.” ~Aaron Spotted Corn
