Kids in Parks is a fiscally sponsored group of the San Francisco Parks Trust, a 501(c)3 organization located in San Francisco, California. Our group began in 1998; to date, we have provided environmental education and career-building skills to more than 4,000 underserved students through our youth development programs. Approximately 34% of these students are Asian American, 26% Latino, 18% African American, 15% Pacific Islander, and 7% Caucasian. Nearly 80% of the students qualify for subsidized school meal programs due to their low-income status, and more than 5% come from special education and special needs programs. Now in our thirteenth year, Kids in Parks has achieved a long list of significant accomplishments including: became one of the only independent environmental education organizations in San Francisco to provide year-long (or more) programs to students in Bay Area schools; taught over 1,600 sessions, all of which adhered to California state science standards; established sustainable habitats for the threatened local Pacific tree frog and Green Hairstreak butterfly species within the Bay Area; and received honors and recognition such as the Cingular Community Spotlight Award.
