Global Exchange is a 501(c)(3) educational organization that has been operating in San Francisco for over twenty years. It is a membership-based, human rights organization dedicated to promoting environmental, social and economic justice. The organization has been a strong and consistent leader in the environmental movement, as the successful co-founding of Green Festival, the largest Green Expo in the U.S., exemplifies. Global Exchange has the experience, expertise and qualifications to successfully manage this program.
Given its solid reputation, Global Exchange has been a respected and sought after partner in San Francisco’s efforts to expand access to the green economy to underserved populations and low-income communities. We have been a lead partner in bringing environmental education to San Francisco public schools through our Environmental Service Learning Initiative (ESLI). This program has educated and engaged hundreds of youth in hands-on environmental service learning projects, ranging from community gardens to initiating recycling and energy audit programs at their schools.
Through our work in expanding environmental stewardship and green career options to young people and marginalized communities, we have built strong partnerships with the San Francisco Department of the Environment (DOE), San Francisco Department of Children Youth and their Families (DCYF), San Francisco City College, local green businesses and community-based organizations. We are proud of the role we have played thus far in building a more engaged environmental citizenry in San Francisco, and we look forward to actively engaging and growing this effort in coming years.
