Girls Incorporated of Alameda County

Established in 1958, Girls Inc. serves more than 6,000 Alameda County girls and their families annually, with programs at two service centers and at more than 48 schools. We seek to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold by providing academic enrichment, health education, career development, and counseling services to Alameda County’s most under-resourced girls. We encourage girls to continue to learn and grow with us by providing a continuum of programs that identify and nurture the potential for success in every girl. Programs include:
* GIRLStart Literacy (grades K-3): Providing girls with a strong literacy foundation for their school years and beyond.
* Watch Out World! (grades 4-5): Improving girls’ fitness, healthy nutrition, self-esteem, and academic success.
* All STARS (grades 6-8): Empowering girls to develop their capabilities through technology, academic enrichment, career exploration, and leadership
* Eureka! Teen Achievement Program (grades 8-12): Fostering girls’ interest in science, math, engineering, and technology, providing them with valuable summer internship opportunities, and preparing them for college.
We also organize leadership, health, and sexuality education programs for girls in middle and high school. Through Pathways Counseling Center, we provide both outpatient and school-based mental health services in English and Spanish. Our record of excellence speaks to the quality of our programming and impact on our community. Some of our recent accomplishments include:
* Girls Inc. of Alameda County received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent evaluator of charities for the past four years, in August 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
* In 2010, 100% of Eureka! high school seniors enrolled in college.
* By 2011 an estimated 1,500 girls across the country will participate in curricula initially developed by Girls Inc. of Alameda County.
