The urgency of this Soccer Field is clearly evidenced by the fact there currently exists no community park where soccer and baseball can be played simultaneously. The City intends to develop a separate soccer field in the San Joaquin Sports Park to ensure youth soccer, a cultural mainstay for a community that is 90% Hispanic, can be organized and played on a regular basis without competing for space and playing time with baseball.

The San Joaquin Sports Park Soccer/Football Field Infrastructure project is 99% completed, the project was at a standstill due to weather, approval and final inspection of the lights are scheduled to be tested for final approval. Soccer/Football Goal Post were installed 04/09/10.
Although the wheather has been one of the major obstacles for final inspections and installation of the equipment, the project infrastructure has been moving forward and continously changing the improvements of the park.
The Soccer/Football Field Infrastructure Project is scheduled to be completed by early May 2010.
The Community has been patiently waiting for the Sports Park improvements to be completed. As the warmer months rapidly approaches, the season for soccer and football programs are beginning.
With the Soccer/Football Field Infrastruction completed, parents now will have the option to either drop off their children or wait for them at the park where they will access to bleacher.
Parents will be able to attend sporting events in San Joaquin due to the completion of the infrastructure where events can be held rather then going to another city.
Although the project is not yet completed, City staff has received numerouse compliments from our residents who are expressing the exitiement of being able to use the facility where multiple sporting events can be held and not having to share a field. The community is anxiously waiting for the completion of this phase 2 of the Community Master Park Plan the Soccer/Football Infrastructure.
The City has soccer groups and football leagues requesting applications to use the facility, when it is completed.
When the infrastructure of the Soccer/Football field is completed, we anticipate it will indeed fullfill its purpose beyond its need.
Although the City has limited funding, we are striving to fully complete the City’s Master Park Plan and create a fully equipped Sports Park which will meet ADA compliance regulations.
