California Community Builders

Founded in 2006, California Community Builders (CCB) is a non-profit organization seeking to close the home-ownership gap in California. The mission of CCB is to: one, address the underlying policy issues that impede affordable and work-force housing; and two, develop for-sale and rental affordable homes in California’s low-income and under-served communities. CCB strives to create positive change at a familial, communal, and regional level through holistic development, quality housing opportunities, and a new model for residential construction. The goal incorporates high density solar powered, energy efficient detached homes in areas where the norm is rambling ranch style homes on quarter acre lots.  It also includes computer and technology training to help close the broadband gap and provides access to a local health facility.

California Community Builders was awarded $193,000 for their Milagro Park project. This park will provide much needed open space that will model a “green” community park, serve as a community eco-learning center, highlight innovative play areas and provide gathering space (micro-amphitheater) for instruction, celebrations and social gatherings.  The community garden, in collaboration with other community initiatives, will promote health and nutrition in a culturally sensitive manner. Milagro Park will, by design and the physical infrastructure, serve as the “heart of the community”.
