NOMINATIONS FOR “BEST PRACTICES”
We are looking to invite 3-5 organizations that exemplify aspects of “Best Practices” to present their work at the February gathering.
In our meetings we have identified a number of challenges (cultural issues, transportation/access, safety/fear, lack of experience, funding) in connecting diverse youth to outdoor experiences. We’d like groups that have struggled with and successfully addressed some of those challenges to talk about their work. Ideally, the presentations would include both youth and adults. We would provide more guidance on the format for the presentations.
To suggest your organization or another organization to present, send an email to Deb Bruns, bruns@ycoe.org. Please provide contact information for the organization and a few sentences explaining why you are nominating them.
JOIN A WORK GROUP
Work groups will meet once or twice between meetings to continue working on suggested projects and actions and developing plans for future meetings. Please consider joining a work group:

NOTES FROM OCTOBER 20 MEETING
The notes, evaluations and participant list from the October 20 meeting are now posted on the YDN website
Connecting Youth to the Outdoors - GO Network!
The Connecting Youth to the Outdoors network has a new name! They are officially the Get Outside (GO) Network based on a vote at the last meeting.
Thanks to all who participated in the last meeting, especially the youth who joined us. It was inspiring to hear the youth voice. Their stories and perspective added much to the discussions. We all agree that this was an important addition to our gatherings and want to continue.
GO Network will be meeting again in May - will send out a “save the date” notice as soon as we have confirmed room availability.
Following are the documents from the February 3rd meeting:
They didn’t take notes on the youth presentations nor capture the discussion in the break-out sessions. You had to be there!
What’s in it for Me? The GO network asked participants to tell them why they came to the network meeting in an effort to identify commonalities and continue to develop a shared sense of purpose. This is also helpful as we think about future meetings and about seeking resources to continue to support the network.
Evaluations
Look forward to continuing to work together. Please contact us if you have suggestions for future meetings or would like to join one of our work groups.
